Steve Healy is the newly appointed CEO of clinical trial and pharmaceutical logistics specialist COREX Logistics. The company’s former Vice President of Business Development, has been appointed CEO as the company looks to accelerate its global growth by expanding its operations and services.
With more than 20 years of extensive expertise and leadership experience working within the pharmaceutical logistics sector with a focus on commercial pharmaceutical distribution and clinical trial supply chains, Steve has also worked with public sector institutions in the rollout of Covid-19 vaccines and other public health initiatives.
How did you get into airfreight/logistics?
It was by pure chance. When I returned from living in the US, where I had been working as a football coach, I decided I needed to get a real job!
I found an opportunity to get into packaging and logistics, which happened to be very specialist temperature-controlled packaging for pharmaceuticals and clinical trials. I very quickly fell in love with the industry, took it from there, and advanced relatively quickly.
What quote has most resonated with you?
My favourite quote is by Mark Twain: “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born, and the day you find out why.”
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Don’t just focus on the outcome of the vision; it is about the journey and where it can all go wrong.
What is the most adventurous thing you have ever done?
I travelled to the US and lived there for two years where I was a soccer coach for high school and college students.
If you could have dinner with any three people, living or dead, who would it be and why?
My old Headmaster, Mr Stanley Hughes, who used to always say to me, Steve, what are you going to do if you don’t make it in football – at least he would know now.
Muhammed Ali because he was such an interesting character and transcended the sport of boxing to become a real influencer, articulate and funny.
Ronnie Barker, the great comedian. I enjoy comedy, and the greatest comedian, in my opinion, was the late Ronnie Barker. I would recommend anyone watch the famous sketch of him talking about fork handles!
What’s something we wouldn’t know about you from your CV?
People are often shocked when they find out that I never went to university and have no formal higher education qualification. I have just learned from some really good people along the way.
What hobby have you always wanted to try but never got around to?
There isn’t anything I can think of; I’ve tried most of the things I have had a passion for.
If you have not pursued a career in airfreight ( I would say Logistics), what other field would you have liked to go into?
I would love to be an engineer as it is not for me to have a career in anything technical.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
To be able to fly.
What’s your proudest moment and your biggest regret?
The proudest moment would be the birth of my children, and I don’t really have regrets; it is all about learning.
If there was a movie made about your life, who would you like to see play the lead role?
Robert De Niro.
Looking back over your career, what would your message be to someone considering a career in logistics?
Be patient, learn from everybody around you, and take something from all the people that you work for.
How do you motivate your team?
Clear leadership, open and honest communication, and I give them trust and respect.
What is the one item you can’t travel without?
My phone charger.
Who is your role model?
My parents, Sue and Robbie.
What would your autobiography be called?
Don’t leave anything out there!

Dogs, but I don’t have either.

Early riser.
What’s the best and worst purchase you’ve ever made?
The worst is a car that I had a long time ago, an Alfa Romeo; it gave me nothing but problems from the moment I bought it. My best purchase would be my first house as it got me on the property ladder, which is something that is getting harder and harder for young people today.
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I enjoy meats, cheeses, and olives, as well as Spanish or Italian charcuterie.
