Simon Murray works as the Commercial Manager at Powercargo Logistics, heading up both the Business Development and Freight Account Management Teams and contributing heavily on the strategic planning of the business.
How did you get into airfreight/logistics?
I applied to an advert in a local newspaper for a consolidation company and have never looked back since.
What quote has most resonated with you?
Losers let things happen, winners make things happen.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Find a mentor and do what they`re doing.
What is the most adventurous thing you have ever done?
Zorbing was a pretty intense activity.
If you could have dinner with any three people, living or dead, who would it be and why?
Winston Churchill, Kemal Ataturk and Golda Meir.. I am deeply interested in politics, so I feel this would make for an interesting conversation.
What’s something we wouldn’t know about you from your CV?
I`m a qualified personal trainer, although I`ve never pursued that as a career.
What hobby have you always wanted to try but never got around to?
Paragliding would be cool.
If you have not pursued a career in airfreight, what other field would you have liked to go into?
I have a passion for sales, so I think I would be able to thrive in any sales environment.
What’s your proudest moment and your biggest regret?
Proudest moment was definitely becoming a father, I have 2 children.
No regrets at all.. Just experiences to learn from.
If there was a movie made about your life, who would you like to see play the lead role?
Ryan Gosling.
Looking back over your career, what would your message be to someone considering a career in logistics?
It`s a fantastic industry to be involved in which is constantly evolving. No two days are ever the same.
How do you motivate your team?
The whole team celebrates each other’s wins and pushes each other on. My approach is 100 percent collaborative with the team and I look to add value to what they are doing.
What is the one item you can’t travel without?
It’s definitely my iPhone. Would feel lost without it.
Who is your role model?
My Dad.. Excellent example in how to conduct yourself and to push forward with your career.
What would your autobiography be called?
Life and Logistics.
Cats or dogs?
Dogs. We have a five-month-old Hungarian Vizsla puppy named Nala.
Early riser or night owl?
Early morning for the Chinese freight market.
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Massive fan of Indian food but not sure my stomach would thank me if I ate it for every meal from this point forward.
