How did you get into airfreight/logistics?

The family business was founded by my father; however, my grandfather worked for Air France Cargo. So it’s cargo blood for seven decades.

What quote has most resonated with you? ‘

Chase excellence, success will follow” has always been one, but just last week, I heard this, and it moved me: “grass is greener where you water it” I have one more that Leonard Rodrigues from Etihad said: “airlines are built from blood, sweat and ego.”

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

It’s hard to follow, but my dad always says that listening is free; don’t say no to listening to anyone.

If you could have dinner with any three people, living or dead, who would it be and why?

Living and breathing aviation/air cargo every day, I can only think of A. Pravin Singh from Riyadh Air: I would love to learn about his amazing vision and plan for RX Cargo. His plans to see how RX can be a future leader in the global cargo business. B. Andres Bianchi, CEO of LATAM cargo, I am amazed how this airline has grown and gained so much market share on that massive continent. They are doing so well, and I would love to meet him. C. Harold Pang – from Qantas is a legend in the air cargo business and not very often talked about. I only met him once for coffee, and I found him fascinating. Hope they’re reading and meet me for dinner.

What’s something we wouldn’t know about you from your CV?

I didn’t make a CV yet. I’m an open book; come and talk to me, and tell me your troubles! I respect them and let them do their job. And always reward them for their hard work.

What is the one item you can’t travel without?

My headcover for my prayers. I am Sikh, by the way, so we need to cover our heads for prayers.

Who is your role model?

As a professional leader, I really look up to Jan Krems. I have never seen a more dynamic and charismatic leader in the air cargo business. As an entrepreneur, I really look up to Rahul Bhatia, the founder of Indigo Airlines. He was a GSA, and I have so much respect for what he has created from his vision.

What would your autobiography be called?

Kilos and Cents Make Tonnes and Dollars.

Cats or dogs?

Dogs because my sons love them.

Early riser or night owl?

With over 100 days of travel a year, I have phases of both, but I am more of a night owl.

What’s the best and worst purchase you’ve ever made?

My Rolex Panda – I was lucky to get it from a friend who’s a retailer. It becomes a great talking point/ice breaker for so many people, especially men in business circles who love watches. I think half the things my wife buys are bad purchases. I hope she’s not reading this.

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Egg and parantha(Indian bread) – my comfort food.
