60 Seconds With … Frederic Brun

Frederic Brun is the Head of commercial cargo and logistics at Liege Airport. Liege Airport is a unique cargo airport with 1,2 million tonnes of cargo per year constantly increasing. The aim is to bring the airport from a regional airport structure to an international level like all the big ones in this world.

Born in Marseille, France, Frederic joined Liege Airport in November 2022, bringing fresh expertise to the air cargo industry from an airport perspective. Now, he leads a dynamic commercial team of seven, driving growth and innovation in one of Europe’s most important cargo gateways.

What’s your most memorable moment in the air cargo industry

I would like to say that my first cargo event was in 2022, which was literally three days after starting my new position in Miami for the TIACA cargo event. As a forwarder, it was a brand new environment full of new faces, and Torsten Wefers had just introduced me to the entire fair … that was an experience as such.

What was your dream job as a child?

I may be one of those very few in the industry who actually chose their way into logistics, as I studied it in Marseille.

What’s the biggest change you’ve seen in the industry?

I’m now three years in the air cargo industry, and I do see a lot of effort made on sustainability, but surprisingly, those split efforts are not a joint effort.

What’s the most unusual thing you’ve ever shipped?

I have a very funny story. I chartered the first masks from China into Belgium for the Government, and finally, the cargo stayed stuck in Liege because of the non-conformity of the cargo in the EU. Belgian Government at that moment, like everyone in the world, was panic buying, and it was over 155 Million masks.

Window or aisle seat?

I don’t care. Most of the time, I sleep.

What’s the best business lesson you’ve learned the hard way?

This industry moves fast for some things, and sometimes, being the flexible dude doesn’t always serve you.

If you could swap jobs with anyone for a day, who would it be?

I would do it with a football star on a big event final game. Am I a football maniac?

Which three items would you bring to a desert island?

My Marseille football jersey, a lighter for the barbecue, my pillow.

Tea or coffee?

Coffee!

What’s the most exciting place you’ve visited for work?

We have the chance to travel quite a lot and see different types of places, from the trendy ones in Miami and Tokyo to the unexpected ones like Tbilisi, Tashkent, and Nairobi.

If you could introduce one new regulation in air cargo, what would it be?

Open sky for everyone.

What’s your go-to karaoke song?

Eros Ramazotti with Tina Turner Cose della vita.

Can you describe your job in three words?

Connect – Visible – People.

What’s your hidden talent?

None. I suck at pretty much everything, but I’m still a funny dude to spend an evening with.

If you could instantly master one skill, what would it be?

Magic is a fascinating world.

What’s something on your bucket list?

I wish to go to Tahiti once, go to Buenos Aires, and watch the Boca River.

What’s the best airport in the world, and why?

El Nido in the Philippines is the best terminal and handling saw in life😉

If air cargo had a mascot, what would it be?

An eagle, agile, fast, reactive and aggressive.
