60 Seconds With… ANDY SULLIVAN, Sales Manager at Cargonet

ANDY Sullivan is leading the way for the next generation in the cargo industry, bringing over a decade of experience in logistics already! Starting from the ground up, Sullivan initially worked loading freight airside and ensuring smooth aircraft turnarounds at Gatwick Airport.

Over the next decade, he gained valuable experience with Virgin Atlantic Cargo, supporting key flight charter projects during the pandemic, before moving on to roles at DHL and Cargonet. His successful start at Cargonet has since advanced Sullivan to become the Sales Manager, leading the external sales team since April 2024. At Cargonet, Sullivan is now pioneering a new approach to wholesale freight forwarding.

How did you get into airfreight/logistics?

My father was in the Irish Air Force as part of the engineering and stock replenishment team. Aviation has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. After completing my college courses, I didn’t think twice about getting a job airside at Gatwick airport in the thick of it.

What quote has most resonated with you?

Hard choices, easy life. Easy choices, hard life.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

God gave us two ears and one mouth for a reason. What is the most adventurous thing you have ever done? Something I would recommend to anyone, sky diving over the palm in Dubai. What hobby have you always wanted to try but never got around to? Scuba diving. If you had not pursued a career in airfreight, what other field would you have liked to go into? Military – RAF in particular. If you could have any superpower, what would it be? It has to be flying.

What’s your proudest moment and your biggest regret?

Proudest moment would be buying my first property in the South of England. Biggest regret, not travelling the world enough in my late teens/early twenties.

If there was a movie made about your life, who would you like to see play the lead role?

Ryan Gosling. Looking back over your career, what would your message be to someone considering a career in logistics? Try and start hands-on. You can’t truly understand a product/ service/supply chain until you’ve lived and breathed it every day.

How do you motivate your team?

Lead by example. Strive to be a role model. Prioritise coaching and feedback workshops. Listen to ideas and observations. Ensure everyone is aware of our performance and how we have impacted the results.

What is the one item you can’t travel without?

Golf clubs! What would your autobiography be called? Sometimes, less is more!

Cats or dogs?

Dogs.

Early riser or night owl?

Early riser.

What’s the best and worst purchase you’ve ever made?

Best purchase: my first home. Worst purchase: $600 bottle of Vodka in Las Vegas.

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Omelette and avocado on sourdough toast! What’s your most used emoji? Triangle eyes and a big smile face.
