Turkish Airlines has firmed up its commitment to purchase an additional 20 Airbus A321neos [new engine option] adding to the 72 it already has on order.
Turkish Airlines chief executive officer, Dr Temel Kotil says: “As one of the world’s fastest growing airlines, our ambitious growth strategy needs to be fully supported by only the most efficient, reliable and profitable aircraft. This order for 20 more A321neo will help us achieve our expansion plans in a profitable and sustainable manner.”
Airbus chief operating officer, John Leahy says: “We are extremely happy that Turkish Airlines has renewed its confidence in the A321neo, the largest member of our best selling A320neo Family.”
Airbus has had over 4,300 orders for the A320neo Family since its launch in 2010. The manufacturer says the A320neo Family offers 15 per cent fuel savings through technology including new generation engines and Sharklet wing tips. It says the A321neo offers an increased range of 500 nautical miles over the standard A321 and when the Long Range variant of the A321neo is introduced from 2019, it will be able to fly up to 4,000 nautical miles.
